About the Author
I am a Registered Dramatherapist, qualified drama teacher and Therapeutic Education Lead, with over 20 years’ experience working creatively with children and young people across pre-school, primary, secondary and university settings.
My professional journey has always centred around helping children and young people find their voice, express themselves and develop a stronger sense of who they are. Through my work in education and therapeutic settings, I have seen how powerful storytelling, drama, music, play and creative expression can be in supporting emotional wellbeing and building confidence.
I currently work as a Dramatherapist and Therapeutic Lead within Schools and private practice, supporting children and young people who may experience social, emotional and mental health challenges. My passion is creating safe, imaginative opportunities where children can explore their feelings, develop resilience, overcome challenges and recognise their own unique strengths.
The Caterpillar’s Christmas Wish grew from this passion. The story was originally written as a theatre performance for a nursery group, where the children brought Sam’s journey to life through drama, movement, imagination and song. Seeing how the children connected with Sam and their challenges inspired me to develop the story further as a picture book.
At the heart of Sam’s Christmas adventure is a message I hope children and families will carry with them: sometimes the magic we are searching for is already within us.
Through Sam’s journey from caterpillar to butterfly, children are invited to explore themes of courage, friendship, empathy, resilience, self-belief, transformation and discovering their own potential.
My hope is that The Caterpillar’s Christmas Wish provides not only a magical Christmas story, but also a gentle reminder that every child has something special within them waiting to grow and shine.
